Understanding SEO In A Nutshell minus the Technicalities
If you’re starting out to make your first wave in the online marketing trend, chances are people in the internet community, and social-networking sites are advising you to hire an SEO. You’re wondering what SEO stands for as you’ve been hearing the three-letter word like it is some holy grail among net zealots. Perhaps, at one time, you’ve mistaken it for CEO, and it baffles you why on planet earth would you have to hire a CEO, but it’s not CEO, its SEO with the big letter S instead of C.
So what is SEO and why SEO?
SEO, in a nutshell stands for Search Engine Optimization and what it means is that it gives your website a good ranking and visibility in the internet search engine (search result) like Google through search terms and keywords. In the world of Google, SEO is a vital part of your company’s success through internet marketing so that is why you need a local SEO that will help your website or web page hit high on the search rankings.
How would you know your website or webpage is doing great?
Quite simple really, whenever you make a search in Google, for example, you will automatically see ten websites on its first page then another ten on the next page and so on. If your website, for example, is about health and fitness and it appears on the first page when the keywords “health fitness” is entered on the search menu, then that means your website is scoring high on the search engine rankings. When your company gets higher rankings, it means it has better traffic which can result higher sales.
So how does SEO work and why does it work?
The success of your company (or your website, for that matter) hinges on its marketability and SEO is a marketing tool that will help your company rise from the competition through visibility. Without getting muddled with its technicalities, SEO works by optimizing SEO content that includes various codes, keywords, tags, key phrases or descriptions that Google looks for. How Google (Yahoo and Bing) can index your website through a myriad of lists of search terms and phrases by complex algorithm is a well guarded secret.
Important Note:
What really matters is the result SEO brings to your website. Remember that Google is a very (perhaps the largest) indexed content system and for your website, web page or blog to be indexed, Google has to catalog it first. Creating or designing a website does not automatically pop up in Google. It has to be index by Google for it to crawl into rankings in the search result. For Google to crawl your website faster is determined by your SEO content already in proper place. Google will index your site by manually submitting a site map to its webmaster central.
Remember, crawling towards higher rankings does not take overnight, and it might take days or even weeks. SEO is a long term work, but such arduous effort will pay off in the long run that is why it is very important to have a local SEO expert to help your website gain better rankings in the search results.
